# getParameterValue question - Can't retrieve a specific parameter

Hello!  
I’m new to the API (C#), and I can’t successfully assign a parameter. I searched in the documents and previous topics - I have found the line I need:  
FMOD.Studio.EventInstance.getParameterValue(stringName, out value1, out finalValue)

Though, what do value1 and finalValue mean?

I also watched a youtube tutorial, but it seems like it’s using an old syntax ([https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=ui\_dsz1zmWM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=ui_dsz1zmWM)).

My goal here is to create an updated variable which contains a specific parameter from FMOD.  
Will appreciate any help,
