# How to ensure that different channels are used when playing different sound

How to ensure that different channels are used when playing different sound，Because I want to control their playback and pause separately

When you use [`System::playSound`](https://fmod.com/resources/documentation-api?version=2.0&page=core-api-system.html#system_playsound) you can get a `Channel` pointer back. As long as you are not overriding the pointer, it will only be used for that specific sound (until the sound stops playing at which point the channel may be used for another sound).
