Hi,

I’m trying to live connect from FMOD on my Mac to Unity running on a PC. The computers are both on the same wifi network (I have the game running when trying to connect, both computers are on the 5 GHz wifi if that matters and live connect works fine when running FMOD on the PC).

However, I am not able to connect and get a “Socket error”. I have tried following the steps in documentation, and my setup looks like this. Can anyone help me figure out what might be wrong?

Thank you!

Hi, sorry for the late response.

Unfortunately, I was not able to reproduce the issue you mentioned with a similar setup from my end.

Could I grab the version number of your studio and FMOD Unity integration?

For trouble shooting, could you please confirm that both your Mac and PC firewalls allow FMOD and Unity through (especially on TCP port 9264)? Also, disable any VPNs temporarily as they can block connections. If possible, you could test with an Ethernet connection to see if it helps rule out Wi-Fi issues.

Sorry about my super late response. I actually already have my Mac and PC connected with ethernet for quick file transfering, but not sure how to use that on Live Connect - what do I need to do to make that work?

Thank you for sharing the information, I have followed the setup as you described. However, I noticed that the IPv4 address I used was from the `Ethernet adapter `, whereas the screenshot you provided references the `Wireless LAN adapter`

Could you please try using the IPv4 address from the `Ethernet adapter ` instead of the IPv4 address from the `Wireless LAN adapter`?

Could you also ensure that the version number of FMOD Studio on your Mac corresponds to the plugin version used in Unity?

**Update:** I noticed that both IPv4 addresses work on my side. It seems that you have enabled the Live Update for the `Default` platform-specific settings, but not for the `Editor` platform-specific settings. Could you please enable the Live Update from the `Editor` platform-specific settings?

Hope this helps, let me know if the issue persists.

Hi, I tried using the IPv4 address from the Ethernet adapter, but still had no luck.

Also tried making sure firewalls are setup to allow FMoD connections – does this look ok for that?

What is weird, is that I have the machines connected via ethernet, and I am able to connect to the PC through Finder (I do that for transferring files between the machines) using 169.254.122.140 as you also suggested for FMOD, but it does not work with FMOD.

I already had Live Update enabled for both Editor and Default

I am using FMOD 2.02.22 on both machines.

Also had VPN disabled on both machines when trying all this

Any other ideas about what could be wrong here?

Thank you for sharing the version number and screenshots.

Everything appears to be configured correctly to me.

I was still not able to reproduce the issue as version 2.02.22 is working as expected on my end.

Could you please tick API Error logging and set the Logging Level to “Log” ([Unity Integration | 8. Settings | 8.2 Initialization | 8.2.1 Logging Level](https://fmod.com/docs/2.02/unity/settings.html#logging-level)) to enable more detailed logging, then share full logs from the console when attempting to live update?

Hi @li_fmod , sorry about getting back to this after such a long time. Before I do the log thing, could you help me make sure that I am writing the correct IP address.

I have my Mac (running FMOD) connected to my PC with an ethernet cable (using that for quick file transfers as shared in my post above) and they are also on the same wifi. I assume that using the cabled connection is the best approach?

Can you tell me how to get the correct IP address for FMOD please?

Finally figured it out. I had to change the network profile on my ethernet connection from public to private ([How to change network settings from public to private? - Microsoft Q&A](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/73866/how-to-change-network-settings-from-public-to-priv))

Btw I also had to set up a static IP address on the ethernet connection to make Live Connect always work. It seemed like if it wasn’t static it would sometimes automatically revert back to a public instead of private network profile
