Referenced Events Cutting Off

Hi everyone. I’m running into an issue much like this one wherein a referenced event is getting cut off, but it doesn’t seem related to the playhead. (Video link below, couldn’t work out how to embed!)

I have a referenced event which contains a loop, and I’m looping across the playback of that event until a parameter change moves to play from the next marker in the event using a transition region. I have multiple referenced events in this one working in the same way, but I’ve had specific issues with two of them cutting out. One of the events is supposed to continue playing across a few markers/transitions, and thought this was the cause of the issue. I’ve had the same issue with one instance of the event playing across multiple markers, as well as having a new instance of the event begin at each marker. I also experienced the same issue having the event start and stop separately using command instruments.

I used the workaround from the above linked issue report to have a 60-second release on a pitch modulation (not modulating) inside the referenced event appeared to resolve it, but on playing the event again it hasn’t fixed it. In some rare circumstances it plays without issue, but mostly it’ll cut out if I leave it running. I also since noticed it happening on one of the other referenced events.

Is there any suggested fix for this issue, or am I doing something totally wrong here? Thanks in advance for your help!

I’m using FMOD Studio 2.03.07 on a Mac if it’s relevant.

Transition timelines untrigger the instruments at their sources and trigger the instruments at their destinations. This applies even to instruments whose trigger regions are long enough to be present at both the source and destination of a transition timeline: Such an instrument will be untriggered and retriggered as part of the transition timeline’s normal function. As of the time of writing (January of 2026), there is no way to prevent this behavior; if you want to prevent instruments from being untriggered and retriggered by transition timelines, the only option is to not use transition timelines.

I’ve added your name to the list of people who’ve requested that we change this behaviou.

That workaround won’t function in this case. Adding an AHDSR modulator to an instrument property changes the instrument’s behavior when untriggered, but it can’t prevent the instrument from being untriggered.

Without knowing your requirements and desired behaviour, it’s hard to know how to fulfil them. All I can suggest is avoiding having instruments at the source of a transition timeline that need to continue playing across that transition timeline. Moving instruments off the timeline sheet and onto parameter sheets may assist with this.
