I want to draw an automation curve on a snapshot intensity timeline so it follows the envelope of a sound AND have intensity go to zero over distance. (In essence, multiplying two normalized automation numbers, if I’m thinking about this correctly.)
Is this possible? (or must I use an ADHSR to achieve this?)

Yes.
To automate a property on additional parameters, click the “Add Curve” button on the automation drawer in the deck, and select the additional parameter you want to automate the property on. When an intensity property is automated on multiple parameters, the values of the two automation curves are multiplied to obtain the final value, just as you describe.
When a property is automated on multiple parameters, you can switch which automation curve is displayed on the automation drawer by clicking the left and right arrow buttons on the automation drawer.
