Haptic Plugin Integration with Scatterer Events

The newly added haptic plugin is fantastic! However, is there a way to make the vibration effect trigger based on scatterer instrument events? in ambient sound, I’ve set lightning to occur every 10 seconds to 1 minute, and I’m wondering if there’s a way to make the controller vibrate when the lightning strikes.

Also, our game is scheduled to launch a few years from now, but we might showcase it at Steam Festivals before that. Regarding FMOD licensing, do we need to pay when the game is officially released on Steam, or when it’s made public during a Steam Fest?

It’s not possible to directly assign an haptics plugin instrument to play at the same time as a clip in a scatterer instrument. However, the scatterer instrument can play back event instruments, so you can create spatialized child events that play selected lightning audio clips and corresponding haptics clips, and use the scatterer to play the child events instead. If you wanted to add directionality/spatialization to the haptics as well, you can use built-in distance and direction parameters to automate the Left/Right strength and balance of the haptics.

You don’t need to pay when it’s made public during a Steam Fest, only before it’s officially released. I’d recommend contacting sales@fmod.com if you have any questions on the specifics of the licensing agreement.
