Transition Timeline (UX Suggestion)

Hi guys!

I encountered an issue prior to a milestone that drove me crazy: I had a music that was “dropping” (audio stopping with sometimes some layer playing the release or not) without any particular reason.

I tried to find the origin of the problem in deeper reasons than it was sadly, and couldn’t figure it out.

When I found the origin I was kinda mad at myself: it was an unwanted transition timeline, which was probably created by mistake over several dozens of measures.

I’m gonna take an extreme example, but… when you have setups like this :

… pin pointing a potential issue starts to be problematic.

So the idea would be to improve the transitions implementation like this:

  • When double clicking on a transition, if the transition timeline does not exists beforehand, open a prompt “would you like to create a transition timeline yes/no” ( enter=yes, esc=no + mouse)
  • When double clicking on a transition, if the transition timeline exists, open or close it (as usual)
  • When right clicking > Add transition timeline, keep current behavior to allow quick creations fast and easily
  • Finding a marker / color to replace the tiny dot, which is somewhat visible but when you are deep down in the rabbit hole in a project, sometimes it’s not obvious enough.

Cheers!

Olivier

A confirmation dialog when creating a new transition timeline by double-clicking, and a harder-to-overlook indication that a transition timeline is present? I can see how those would be useful. I’ll add your suggestions to our feature and improvement tracker.
