Hello. I was wondering if using Wavs or Oggs makes a difference to the master banks file size, once compression has been applied and the banks exported?
In other words, if I convert all my WAVs to Ogg and re-import, I would have a much smaller size studio project file, but would that make any difference when I export the banks?
The format of your source audio files has no impact on your built banks’ file sizes. This is because, as part of the bank-building process, FMOD Studio removes all encoding from your source audio files then re-encodes them using the compression and encoding settings you selected for those assets in the assets browser.
We therefore recommend keeping your source audio files in whatever lossless format you most prefer. Uncompressed .wav files are quick and easy to encode and load, so many people consider them the best option - but FMOD Studio can import source audio files in most commonly-used audio file formats.
Incidentally, “double-bagging” an already-encoded file in an additional audio file encoding format wouldn’t provide any useful benefit even if it were supported, for the same reason that putting a zip file inside another zip file makes the file harder to access without making it any smaller.
