General advice on using FMOD Studio for multiplayer

Hi All,

I’m currently working on an multiplayer game using Unreal.
I’m trying to create a system which will prioritise sounds based on their importance to the player, and also dynamically mix those sounds to keep everything sounding consistent and tight.

So far I have identified the following features which I believe I need to understand well in order to do this:

  • Priorities
  • Max Instances
  • Polyphony
  • Side-chaining
  • Stealing

I was wondering if anybody could recommend any resources / tutorials / advice / tips on using FMOD Studio in multiplayer and best practices for the above features?

I appreciate this is a big ask for the questions section but I thought I would give it a shot.

Have you had a look at our videos page ( There’s a variety of tutorials on a number of topics.

There’s also a great many tutorials on a number of topics available on YouTube.

Thanks Joseph,

I have been through the Unreal tutorials which are excellent, I’m just more specifically after help with triggering large numbers of FMOD events in multiplayer and how best to handle voice stealing etc.

I will keep poking around on YouTube though.
